The cottage enjoys an elevated position above the tiny village of Maes-y-Gwartha and the larger village of Gilwern (1 mile) has a choice of pubs and local stores. Step out of the front door for long walks through the scenic countryside or hop in the saddle for a day spent mountain biking through the valley. The Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal runs through Gilwern offering rambles along the towpath and boats are available for hire at Gilwern Wharf. The attractive town of Crickhowell (4 miles) is well worth a visit with its vibrant high street full of independent stores and award-winning pubs and restaurants. Further afield visit Blaenavon Ironworks (6.5 miles) to discover the industrial heritage of the area or head to the Roman town of Caerleon (21.5 miles) to explore the amphitheatre barracks and preserved Roman baths.
