Co. Laois holiday cottages
Nowhere else in Ireland has such a large number of historical monuments in such a small area as County Laois. Family holidays here are all about days spent visiting unique sites and learning about the country's past. One must-see landmark is the Rock of Dunamaise, where you will find the ruins of a 12th century Anglo-Norman fort on a limestone outcrop. You can also visit the remarkable Timahoe Round Tower, a 98 feet high religious monument built in the 1100s, and the remains of Aghaboe Abbey, where there has been a monastery since the 6th century. There are also some interesting sights from more recent times, such as the mansions of Emo Court and Castle Durrow.
