Carrick-On-Shannon, with its superb marina, is the capital of the waterway, as well as being the county town of Leitrim. One of the highlights on family holidays to the area for those who love watersports has to be the Lough Allen Outdooor Pursuits centre. Try kayaking, canoeing or rafting, and there's even archery and hillwalking if you like to stay dry, plus treasure hunts for the kids.
