Co. Meath holiday cottages
Prehistoric landmarks in County Meath. The main attraction as a family holiday destination is its lush green countryside, but stay in a country cottage or farmhouse here and you will want to spend at least a few days exploring the local history. The Brú na Bóinne UNESCO World Heritage Site on the banks of the River Boyne features three prehistoric mounds - Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth - that offer an unrivalled opportunity to see how our distant ancestors lived. Believed to be older than Stonehenge, it is regarded as Europe's most important concentration of megalithic art. There is another prehistoric archaeological site nearby, the Hill of Tara, along with a visitor centre dedicated to 1690's Battle of the Boyne.
