Torpoint is a town and civil parish on the Rame Peninsula in southeast Cornwall. It is an eighteenth-century planned town, with the grid-based design having been commissioned by Reginald Pole Carew in 1774. His family continue to have a strong influence in the area, having become the Carew Poles in the twentieth century, and still reside at their family seat, Antony House. Torpoint only became a town in the early nineteenth century. Before this, the nearby village of Antony was the main centre in the area. The area is home to an array of gardens, museums, pubs and restaurants - with surf schools boat trips, cliff top walking and cycling for the more active types.
