Midlothian holiday cottages
Midlothian used to be called Edinburghshire. An unweildy name for this great area, with its pretty countryside, abundance of child friendly accommodation and great local history and tradition. Midlothian is filled with superb places to discover, for example Midlothian Snowsports Centre at Hillend, which boasts great facilities and is a fantastic way to keep older children busy. In the shadow of the Pentland Hills, Scotland's longest artificial ski slope which was recently extended, Hillend has been a great local favourite for many years now.
Have an apres ski drink in the friendly pub at the foot of the slopes, or rent a holiday cottage nearby as a base for seeing the area. Midlothian is where you'll find Roslin Chapel, made famous by The Da Vinci Code, it's also ideal for literary buffs and history lovers. Dalkeith, close to Edinburgh and is home to the Corn Exchange and the Tolbooth, great reminders of the area's past. There's lots of good self-catering accommodation to rent locally, you can also rent a holiday cottage for larger groups.
