Monmouthshire holiday cottages
As well as the rugged natural splendour of Brecon Beacons National Park, with scores of mountain sheep traversing its grassy moorlands, the county of Monmouthshire has one of the highest densities of castles in Wales. The splendid Chepstow Castle, built under orders from William the Conqueror and the late sixteenth century castle at Raglan, which played a part in the English Civil War, are just two examples of the seven surviving castles that can be found in the region. In addition to these buildings which survive today, there are numerous other sites in Monmouthshire where castles once proudly stood.
