Southport Coach House cottage The Lake District and Cumbria
Southport Coach House is a lovely detached former coaching house situated in the town of Southport just four miles from Ainsdale in Lancashire. The cottage can sleep five people in one ground floor family room with one double and one single and one twin bedroom as well as family bathroom and separate cloakroom. Also in the cottage is a kitchen with dining area and a sitting room. Outside there is off road parking for two cars and a private garden with furniture and barbecue. Southport Coach House is a perfect base from which to explore the many activities available in this part of the country.
Southport, along with its neighbour Ainsdale, lies on the coastline where the Irish Sea meets North West England. The town was founded in 1792 when an innkeeper, William Sutton, built a bathing house at what is now the south end of Lord Street, the main road running through the town. The town was small and not very widely populated until the turn of 19th century, when it became popular with tourists due to the easy access it provided to Leeds and Liverpool Canal. It quickly expanded and now boasts the second longest pleasure pier in the British Isles, the Southport Pier Tramway and Lord Street, an elegant, tree-lined shopping destination.
