The largest of the Scilly Isles is St Marys, yet it is a mere two and a half miles long. The capital of the island is Hugh Town, and it is home to several hotels and many of the trappings of modern life. The island's quay provides several opportunities to take boat trips to the other islands, and a regular trip to the mainland takes visitors back to Penzance in Cornwall - the main gateway to the Scilly Islands. Whilst the vast majority of accommodation options can be found in Hugh Town, quaint guest houses and self-catering cottages are scattered across the stunning landscape. Among the fantastic places to visit on St Mary's is the Carreg Dhu Community Garden which contains a selection of fauna from around the world. Remnants of the island's past can be found at almost every turn, and a small museum in the centre of Hugh Town charts the history of the St Marys.
