South West of England holiday cottages
There are plenty of places to visit in the South West of England if you are looking to spend some time away on holiday with either family or friends. It's a great place to go for short breaks in the countryside, particularly around Exmoor or Dartmoor, where you can watch the wild ponies roam. Failing that, you could take advantage of the beautiful coastline in Devon, Cornwall or Dorset and enjoy sea views from a cottage situated near to the coast. There's plenty to do at the beach, including surfing, which North Devon and North Cornwall are both renowned for, as well as any number of water sports - from scuba diving to boogie boarding (if surfing is just a bit too adventurous that is!).
For people who enjoy doing something different, working farm holidays offer a really unique way to spend your holiday. They're ideal as family friendly holidays because children just love to see the animals and are often encouraged to join in with feeding, grooming and looking after the animals. Making for a truly memorable experience.
There are some excellent family friendly attractions in South West England too, like the Eden project in Cornwall, the exciting Cheddar Gorge and caves in Somerset and don't forget the spectacular Jurassic Coast in Dorset where kids (and adults!) can spend hours hunting for fossils or just enjoy the beach and an ice cream.
If you or your friends enjoy a game of golf, there are plenty of golf courses across the West Country too, many with excellent hotels, so you could even have a golf holiday or short break!
For the dog lovers among us, don't worry, there is lots of dog friendly accommodation across the region so you needn't leave Fido at home (and he can enjoy the countryside or the beach too)! Devon and Dorset in particular have a number of dog friendly beaches, but it's worth checking with the owner of a cottage that it's okay to bring your faithful friend along first!
For something a little bit different, consider visiting the Isles of Scilly. Found just off the south west Cornish coast, it really is a unique and special location, with stunning sea views from just about wherever you might stand on any of the five islands.
In all, the South West of England is an ideal place for short breaks or long ones! The climate is pleasant (particularly on the Isles of Scilly), there's plenty of beautiful countryside and coastline to enjoy, not to mention the picturesque towns and seaside villages that are abundant in this region. Enjoy a cider in Somerset, or a North Devon cream tea and take in some of the most spectacular scenery to be seen in England.
